♫ ♪ On the Road Again... ♪ ♫

Well, in about an hour.  We must get fully caffeinated before attempting to drive, in the interests of self-preservation and public safety.  The weather radar picture between P-Ville and ABQ is perfectly clear, so it looks to be an easy ride.

Play it, Willie!

  1. My little group of bicycling friends has used this as our theme song for years. . .

    1. I've used it for the same purpose on occasions myself.

  2. Buck, if I had to name ONE performer that I've enjoyed more than any other in my 53 years, it would have to be Willie.

For 40 or so years I've watched the "phases" that he's gone through, and enjoyed every one of them (except for that 7 or 8 years when he stopped singing his songs, and just "talking" the lyrics...I thought he was DONE...but he started singing again, so all was right with the world). I love the guy. I became somewhat a junior student of his life, and I've know many people that have performed with him as far back as the 50's (long stories). I've met dozens and dozens of big stars over the years (long stories). But, I've never met Willie...never seen him in concert...never smoked a joint with him, either.

    Crud.

Funny how memories bubble up. My oldest son (AF in Afghan now) is a very talented musician, and always had a great "ear." When he was a little guy...maybe 3 years old...we were driving somewhere, and a Willie Nelson song came on the radio. He reached over and started pulling on my sleeve. He said, "Dayudee! Dayudee! Dat sounds yust lack Winnie Nessus!

    He had the cutest lisp...

    1. I haven't been following Willie NEAR as long, coming to country music pretty late in life. But now that I'm there... Willie is one of my favorites.

  3. Buck, I forgot to mention this in my previous comment. Porter Waggoner is in that video, which damn near destroys it all.

Jeepers! How that guy ever made enough money singing to buy a single rhinestone is beyond me.

I came to country music VERY early in life (long stories), but NEVER understood how Porter was the success that he was. God rest his soul...

One of the most miserable nights I ever spent was in The West Plains Motel, on Porter Waggoner Blvd. in West Plains, MO. (Long story...but it ended with me breaking a window with a mouse. Really.)

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
